From The Dickens' Village Series
This two-story Swiss chalet represents the one sent to Charles Dickens as a token of friendship from French actor Charles Fechter. Painted in warm brown it had one room on each floor, a small balcony and the atmosphere of a tree house for grown-up children. The chalet could be reached through a tunnel under the road, giving private access to what became Dickens’ writing retreat. A retreat where Dickens wrote “Great Expectations”.
